Does Linux distro such as Linux Mint stop giving out updates at some point or does it update forever?

I’m currently using Linux Mint Elyssa and I was wondering if the lack of updates would be a security risk. Thanks.

Linux Mint has Ubuntu at its base so support will end for the Linux Mint 5 LTS the same time as Ubuntu 8.04 LTS

After these dates Linux Mint will continue to work just fine but security updates will cease.

I am still running Ubuntu 7.04 on a spare PC and support ended in October 2008 without any problems
