It was, indeed, a doozy

During the decade of the 1930s was very common to hear the phrase: "It's extraordinary." This was used to describe all that was the best of everything.

Duesenberg is attributed to the car that was reputed to have the mechanical precision of a Rolls Royce accompanied the epitome of style, luxury and elegance.

The Duesenberg was the creation of Fred and August Duesenberg, self-taught engineers who crafted their cars. In 1913, they opened the car and Duesenberg Motors Co. on State Street in Garner, Iowa and began building sports cars.

At Daytona in 1930 the Duesenberg established a new land record speed of 156 kilometers per hour. Back in 1921, Jimmy Murphy, who was the first American to win the Grand Prix France, led a Duesenberg across the finish line at LeMans. And as late as 1960, the only American car to win a European Grand Prix was the Duesenberg.

Then again in 1924, 1925 and 1927 Duesenberg completed a first in the Indianapolis 500.

However, in July 1921, the Duesenberg factory was moved to Indianapolis and began production of passenger cars. The first vehicle produced was the Model A. Six hundred and sixty of these cars were produced.

The Model A was a car ahead of its time. It had dual overhead camshafts, four valves and hydraulic brake cylinder heads first installed in a car passengers.

Despite this, it was a success and the company was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1922.

In 1926, the cable, which was already a successful automotive businessman, bought the company to acquire the engineering skills of the brothers and the brand.

Fred Duesenberg was a genius engineer and the marrow was an innovative design. Together they were an unbeatable team. There was the J model, which was presented at the New York Auto Show in 1928. Had a maximum speed of 119 kilometers per hour and could reach 94 mph in second gear. It was, without doubt, the best of his time.

The chassis and the engine was exhibited in New York. The interior and the body is always tailored to the specifications of the buyer.

The Duesenberg was definitely the choice of the rich and famous. He was popular among celebrities Hollywood royalty, as well as Europeans. Gary Cooper and Clark Gable took the convertible. King Alfonso XIII Duesenberg J chose to accompany him into exile.

The Duesenberg was owned not only by actors and actresses in Hollywood, also acted in films.
In 1959film, "Some Like It Hot, starring by Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, the Duesenberg, the charges in a parking lot and unload a car full of bandits. They deliver a barrage of bullets for the enemies of his mafia jump back in the car, and go with the string and the entry of "Sound Your Horn" sign hanging at the bottom of the car. A Duesenberg also appeared in "Pocketful of Miracles "and" The Mummy Returns. "

The Duesenberg was announced as the best car in the world and that the statement be difficult to dispute. Unfortunately, the financial empire of the cord was unable to survive the Great Depression and the company ceased production in 1937.
